You all are welcome for FAER - McAfee Scholar Awards Programme : Seminar-cum-Exhibition for FAER - McAfee Scholar Contest.

Kindly book your travel tickets, accommodation and come to Bengaluru latest on the afternoon of June 21st, 2017 (Wednesday) and confirm your participation via email., office@faer.ac.in

Students needs to make their own arrangements for accommodation. They may kindly come to Bengaluru on 21st June and set up their exhibits and check up their working.

Each presenter will get 10 minutes for presentation and 3 minutes for discussions. The template is appended. Do not spend more than a minute on introduction and literature. Concentrate on your work, achievements, results, innovations etc. The demos will be done to the judges in the Afternoon.

The awards presentation function will be on 17th June and will end up by 5.30 pm.

Note: All participants should stay for 22nd and 23rd June 2017 and attend the functions for eligibility for awards, participation certificates and travel amount.

FAER will pay TA and DA for all students - we pay for train journey by second class and DA of Rs. 500 per day. We will reimburse 3rd AC train tickets for Faculty Supervisor. DA is the same.

Journey Ticket copies needs to be produced for reimbursements.

All payments to students and faculty supervisors will be done by crossed cheques.

As informed in our previous email, kindly make necessary arrangements to bring your project exhibits / models for demonstration and Power point presentation files (PPT 2003 format) in a CD and pen drive. (For preparing the slides, go through our previous email / FAER Website).

We have made arrangements for LCD projector and a laptop computer, a table of 3 x 4 ft size with power connections for the exhibits of your models.

Dear students,

Welcome for the presentation for the students seminar and awards function of FAER - McAfee Scholar Programme. The seminar starts on June 22nd at 9.00 am Sharp. Please be available in the seminar hall by 8.30 am. Ramaiah Institute of Technology is located on the North of Indian Institute of Science in Mathikere area. It is about 8 kms from City Railway Station.

The seminar presentations are very important. There is strict time line to be maintained. You are given only 10 minutes for presentation. Please utilise it to explain your work, contributions, the hardware fabrication, its advantages, utilities etc. Do not spend time on Introduction. We have printed a book containing the write-ups on all projects to be presented and this write-up is with the judges. There will be a PC and LCD projector, please give us the ppts (PPT-2002) in advance so that we can load them and save time.

A template is given below listing the slides and contents of each slide. Follow this please. Do not increase the number of slides.

Kindly bring the following:

1. Your ID card from the college

2. A letter from principal that you are presenting the project work.

3. Original bills signed by your Principal for reimbursement.

4. Your fabricated hardware device for demo. You can take it back.

5. One copy of your full project report if you have not submitted already.

The following is the template for presentation on June 22nd seminar.

FAER - McAfee Scholar Award Program : 2016 - 2017

 

The objectives of the FAER Scholar Program are :

  • To encourage creativity and innovation amongst the students in polytechnics and engineering institutions across India particularly those in rural and semi-urban areas making them to think and prepare detailed project proposals on areas and topics of relevance.

  • To take up problems of relevance related to
    (a) rural areas
    (b) rural communications
    (c) agricultural information systems
    (d) information flows
    (e) e-governance
    (f) resource utilization
    (g) ecology and rural areas
    (h) watershed development
    (i) use of ad hoc networks
    (j) renewable sources and utilization
    (k) rural planning etc.

  • To award "Scholars" status to meritorious persons based on a rigorous three stage selection process refereed and conducted by experts.

Foundation for Advancement of Education and Research (FAER) announces FAER Scholar program to select scholars from engineering colleges based on a project in the areas of

  • Computer Science and Information Technology

  • Mobile Communications

  • Renewable Energy Systems

  • Rural technologies

  • Health care Technologies

  • Labour saving Technologies for Women

  • Ecology and Environment

  • Mobile Applications

Selections will be done by FOUNDATION for ADVANCEMENT of EDUCATION and RESEARCH (FAER).

It consists of two stages.

 

Stage 1

FAER will receive project proposals from students in engineering colleges, screen them with the help of experts and select projects for funding. An amount up to a maximum of Rs. 5,000/- will be reimbursed to each project team after completion of their project.
 

Stage 2

Selection of "FAER Scholars" based on the evaluation of the completed projects through a Seminar-cum-Exhibition and best projects will be awarded with Cash Prize and Certificates in FAER Scholar Awards Presentation Function.

Rules of the Contest

  1. Bonafide students doing B.E. / M.C.A. courses in final year are eligible to participate in this contest. Students should be studying in a recognized college / institute / university.

  2. Some of the related subtopics are:
    a) Computer Science and Information Technology
    b) Communication technologies and concepts (digital, optical, wireless, satellite, etc.)
    c) Power and Energy Systems
    d) Signal Processing
    e) Applications
    Innovative applications of systems for problems related to rural areas and disadvantaged people - health, education, renewable energy, labour saving technologies, rural technologies, etc.

  3. The project proposal submitted by participants should pertain to any of the above topics or related areas. It should discuss the merits of the topic chosen. It should deal with new ideas / experiments / devices; innovation and details of implementation as well as its impacts on society.

  4. The project team (batch) can have up to maximum of Four students.

  5. The team should submit a letter from the principal of their institution stating that they are bonafide students of the institution studying for the degree in the final year and/or they belong to the SC/ST communities.

  6. The team should submit the project proposal in the prescribed form signed by their project advisor and principal.

  7. The team should submit a declaration that the work proposed will be taken up exclusively for the FAER Scholar Contest.

  8. The team should also submit an undertaking that if the project is selected, they will take it up, complete within three months and submit the detailed project report to FAER.

  9. The Principal / HoD should give us an assurance that facilities required will be provided to the selected students. This may be part of the proposal.

  10. Project proposals should be sent both as a hard copy and soft copy (by email)  containing all details as per the format declaration and undertaking to our address by 30th November 2015.

  11. Project proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by a team of experts. The experts will select projects suitable for funding and also decide on the grant. The announcement of projects selected for this programme will be on 15th January 2016.

  12. Evaluation will be based on
    a) Relevance to our focused areas
    b) Originality / innovation / novelty
    c) Technical strength
    d) Utility / applicability
    e) Feasibility
    f) Methodology and approach including implementation
    g) Analytical capabilities.
    Proposals without proper details may be rejected. So details are important.

  13. Selected teams will be informed by us along with conditions and details for submission of the project report by 15th January 2016. The same will be hosted to FAER website www.faer.ac.in

  14. The teams should submit the hardcopy of the Final project report by 15th May 2016.

  15. A team can send only one project proposal.

  16. The completed projects will be reviewed. A presentation cum seminar (including demos) will be arranged at Bengaluru. The FAER scholars will be selected in the seminar, seminar invitations will be sent to all project teams.

  17. The FAER Scholar Awards - The First prize will be Rs. 75,000/-, Second prize Rs. 50,000/-,
    Third prize Rs. 30,000/-.

    Kindly note that the topic chosen should be a focussed one - not very general or diffused; should be preferably an experimental one - not just programming work; and should be feasible and implementable in 3-4 months in the institutions.
